A disturbing discovery in regional New South Wales has triggered a major police investigation after human remains were found inside a suitcase on a road south of Goulburn.
Police were called to Wolgon Road, near Oallen Ford Road at Oallen, shortly before 1pm on Sunday, August 9, after a member of the public discovered what appeared to be a body inside a suitcase.
Officers from The Hume Police District attended the location and established a crime scene while detectives and forensic specialists began examining the area.
Police believe the deceased is a woman, although formal identification has not yet taken place.
CRIME SCENE ESTABLISHED
The discovery was made in a rural area approximately 61 kilometres south of Goulburn.
Police immediately secured the location so investigators could begin examining the suitcase and surrounding area for evidence.
The suitcase itself is expected to undergo forensic examination as detectives attempt to establish how it came to be at the location and whether evidence can help identify the deceased.
