(res.) Eliezer Marom, a former commander of the Israeli Navy, has publicly warned that Israel’s stockpile of Arrow interceptor missiles has dropped below ideal operational levels. Speaking during an interview with radio station 103FM, Marom characterised the current supply situation as strained, noting that the nation possesses fewer interceptors than it would ideally require to sustain high-intensity defence operations.
The assessment specifically targets the Arrow system, which is designed primarily to neutralise long-range ballistic missiles. While this does not indicate a complete exhaustion of Israel’s defensive assets, Marom highlighted critical concerns regarding the total number available, the speed at which replacements can be manufactured, and whether current interception rates are sustainable during a prolonged confrontation.
Marom noted that the pressure on these inventories has already forced a strategic shift, resulting in a large proportion of interceptions being conducted with assistance from American missile-defence systems. He pointed to the use of THAAD interceptor systems and SM-3 missiles fired from U.S. Navy ships as evidence that external support is now carrying a substantial share of defensive engagements.
