Netanyahu’s war policy is no longer being protected by silence.
For months, Israel’s government has pushed forward in Gaza and Lebanon while insisting that more military pressure is the only answer. But that argument is now facing growing resistance from some of the same governments that once gave Israel near-total political cover.
In the United States, JD Vance publicly warned Israeli critics of Trump’s Iran deal that Israel cannot simply “kill your way out” of every security problem. That line matters because it came from inside the Trump administration, not from Israel’s usual critics. It showed a major shift in tone from Washington and exposed just how frustrated parts of the U.S. leadership have become with Netanyahu’s direction.
Australia’s Anthony Albanese has also taken a harder public line, accusing Netanyahu of being “in denial” about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and saying the international community has reached the point of “enough is enough.”
In the UK, Keir Starmer has called Israel’s escalation in Gaza wrong, warning that it would bring more bloodshed rather than end the conflict.
This is the bigger story: Netanyahu is not just under pressure from enemies. He is losing patience from allies. The longer the war expands, the harder it becomes for world leaders to defend the civilian cost, the regional escalation and the refusal to accept a political solution.
Israel still has powerful backing, but Netanyahu’s war policy is losing friends fast.
